Curved house
The investor's demand is to have a new house providing better living space, which suits their lifestyle as well as better for their parents' health.
The mission is to design a simple but modern house, which has lots of light and airflow, is nature friendly but also keeps the most privacy possible. Due to there being many family members living together, this house needs lots of private space as well as a larger common space for family bonding.
Our ideas are derived from the waves crashing on the shore as this project is located in a coastal city. However, from idea to reality is a tough process. The problem is how to ensure structural safety as well as aesthetic efficiency. We take into account many structural options. And we chose the plan of crossing the span by hollow floor technology. This technology is widely used in public projects. However, we included it in this project because its advantages are huge. It allows us to free up space, and create large and aesthetically pleasing spaces while still being safe. Also, the aluminum and glass system needs to have a large curvature and must slide back and forth when it is necessary to connect the indoor and outdoor spaces.
On the ground floor is a common living space including a kitchen and living room; One bedroom for parents so that they can move without difficulty; One bedroom for guests; a Laundry room, a Garage, and a technical room. On this floor, all spaces are directly exposed to the garden, which provides natural light and ventilation. We have designed these spaces in a way that they are less affected by hot and sunny air in summer. The garden is a place where the whole family can have fun and eat together. As well as reducing the area of betonization, thereby reducing heat radiation. The connection between the living and dining spaces, the bedrooms, and the garden becomes extremely important when the family has elderly people and children.
On the first floor are the main bedroom including a dressing room and restroom; one bedroom and one common room. In these spaces, we also expanded the space by using large sliding doors instead of solid walls, all opened to the small gardens. Thus getting wind and light becomes easy.
On the second floor are two more bedrooms, a worship room, and a large green terrace that can be used for small parties. We want to create a feeling that wherever you are, you can touch the trees and breathe fresh air. Therefore, all rooms on this floor are also facing toward the terrace.
uring construction and many months after the owner moved in, we came here regularly to check on the status of the project as well as listen to owner opinions on how they lived in the house. They told us: “Since moving here, they feel so enjoyable and their sleep is really good.”
